Coronavirus suspected case, samples sent for lab testing

Lucknow: Health department collected samples from a woman aged 58, who had recently returned from Shanghai, in China.

The woman was screened with thermal scanner at the airport and then examined by a medical te4am that found symptoms of coronavirus in her. Alarmed, the team sent message to the district health department.

Samples were collected by experts and it has been sent to lab in Pune for confirming whether she suffers with coronavirus or not, told Yogesh Raghuvanshi, spokesperson of the health department in Lucknow.

Health department has set up a desk at the airport and all passengers coming from other countries particularly from China are being screened.

Meanwhile health department has arranged isolation wards/beds at different hospitals in the city for treatment of such cases. In all 10 beds in PGI, 5 at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, 10 beds at the KGMU, and a few at civil hospital, Balrampur hospital and also Lokbandhu hospital have been reserved.

The woman has been isolated at her home only and family has been given necessary instructions by the health team. Experts said that to check spread of infection people should not shake hands with individuals who have come from overseas, keep distance of over an arms’ length from the sick individuals.
