Controversy over including CAA in curriculum, Mayawati objects to it

Lucknow: Protests in support and in against of the CAA are going on in the country. Right from Shaheenbagh in New Delhi to Lucknow’s Ghantaghar, women in large number can be seen in the sit-in protest against the CAA. The protests have been going on continuous day and night.

Home minister Amit Shah, on the other hand categorically denied roll back or any changes in the  CAA in a Lucknow rally recently.

In the latest development to the CAA issue Lucknow University’s proposal to include CAA in curriculum has given the entire controversy a new level.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has criticised LU and said the university’s decision to include a controversial and discriminating law CAA in syllabus is incorrect. The BSP she said opposes this and shall revoke when the party comes to power in state.

Mayawati in a tweet wrote debate on CAA is ok but when the matter is in court for hearing it is wrong on part of the LU to include it in syllabus. BSP opposes it and will get it revoked when her party comes to power.

The polotical science department of the Lucknow University is planning to include CAA in syllabus and also hold a debate over it which will be participated by students of many colleges.

If sources at the Lucknow University are to be believed the university will organise the event in the second week of February. Also the department plans to teach CAA to students.

Head of political science department at the university Shashi Shukla said that soon the CAA will be part of academics. Shukla said CAA is a big current affairs topic in the country hence it was significant to make people aware. And for this purpose students are the best medium.

Shukla told that the department shall bring a paper titled current affairs/ issues and it is under consideration that CAA becomes one of those issues. We shall include it in syllabus and keep it.in faculty board for approval. Once approved it shall then go to academic council and once passed there it shall be taught to students. Students also wanted CAA as topic for annual debate competition, Shukla said.
