After defence minister gave statement in the parliament, a Chinese government mouthpiece Global Times has claimed China has suffered fewer casualties than the Indian side in the June Galwan clash.

The statement by editor of Chinese government mouthpiece, Global Times, comes a day after remarks of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the parliament.

In doing so, the Chinese side has acknowledged that troops on their side suffered casualties in the violent clash in June. India has maintained that the Chinese side suffered heavy losses and more casualties compared to India.

Tagging an Indian news report on Rajnath Singh’s statement, Global Times editor-in-chief Hu Xijin said in a tweet, “As far as I know, the death toll of Chinese troops in Galwan Valley clash on June 15 is far fewer than 20 deaths of Indian troops. No Chinese soldiers was captured by Indian troops, but PLA captured many Indian soldiers that day.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh accused China of failing to respect bilateral pacts, saying that there is a mismatch between what Beijing says and does.

Speaking on the floor of the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Rajnath Singh said the Chinese side made several attempts to transgress the LAC in other parts of the western sector in May at a time when military talks were on.

“Even as this situation was being addressed by the Ground Commanders as per the provisions of our bilateral agreements and protocol, in mid-May the Chinese side made several attempts to transgress the LAC in other parts of the western sector,” Rajnath Singh said as apprised the Upper House on the border row with China.

Rajnath Singh already had made a statement in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, saying Beijing has been very clearly conveyed that any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control is not at all acceptable, and that India’s armed forces are ready to deal with all contingencies in the high-altitude region.

Rajnath Singh said there should be no doubt about the country’s determination to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and asserted that India’s armed forces are ready to deal with all contingencies in the high-altitude region.
