Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet against 5 people and a private company in the Gomri River front case on Wednesday.
The names include the then Executive Engineer, Lucknow Division, Sharda Canal (LDSC), Lucknow (also then Incharge Superintending Engineer, XII Circle, Irrigation Works, Lucknow), the then Junior Assistant, XII Circle, Irrigation Works, Lucknow, a private firm and its two directors and a senior advisor of another private company in the matter of award of work of Intercepting Trunk Drain in the case related to Gomti River Front Project.
CBI had registered a case on November 30, 2017 on the request of the state government and further notification from Government of India, and taken over the investigation of the case, earlier registered vide FIR No.831/2017 at Police Station, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.
It was alleged that irregularities were committed in implementation of “Gomti River Channelization Project”’ and “Gomti River Front Development” by Irrigation Department, Government of UP.
It was further alleged that the accused awarded the work for Intercepting Trunk Drain to an ineligible private firm and the date of tender was twice extended to accommodate the said firm.
It was also alleged that forged documents of another bidder/private party were also arranged by the accused to complete the quorum of three participants in the tender.
The agreement for the work was allegedly executed by the accused without obtaining the approval and allotment of funds. The bank guarantee of the L-2 firm was allegedly prepared from the bank account of the L-1 company.
During investigation, both the public servants were arrested on 19.11.2020 and are presently in Judicial Custody. Further investigation is continuing to look into the role of other accused/suspect persons.
The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
