Britney Spears free from her father

Britney Spears feels on cloud nine after a court suspended the legal arrangement between the pop start and her father.

The singer posted a video of her having a flying lesson, shortly after the new came. A judge has suspended Britney Spears’ father from the legal arrangement that gave him control of her life after Spears accused him of years of abuse.

During a hearing at a Los Angeles court in July this year Britney spoke against her father Jamie Spears who was granted conservatorship (control over his daughter’s personal and business affairs) by a court in 2008.

This was for the first time that in an open court Britney spoke for the first time in the case. The pop star said her father “controlled her 100,000%” and she wanted this to end. “I am traumatised,” she remarked, speaking remotely. Jamie Spears was appointed her guardian in 2008, amid concerns over her mental health.

Fans around the world have supported her through the #FreeBritney campaign. Those outside the court in Los Angeles cheered and whooped when they heard the news.

And there was jubilation from some of Spears’ high-profile supporters on social media. Her lawyer Mathew Rosengart said it was his hope and expectation the conservatorship would be fully terminated at a hearing on November 12.

Jamie Spears called the ruling as disappointing. In the court hearing in Los Angeles, Judge Brenda Penny formally ended the conservatorship arrangement the star has had with her father since 2008.

She left in place a separate conservatorship with John Zabel, an accountant chosen by the singer’s legal team.

Judge Penny ruled the singer’s care be turned over to Zabel “forthwith”, saying it was “in the best interest of the conservatee”.

Spears’ lawyers have requested a new hearing be held in the next 30 to 45 days to decide whether to end the conservatorship altogether, and Rosengart added: “Britney doesn’t believe a mental evaluation is necessary, and I certainly don’t.”
