The Senior office bearers of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) have been resigning from their posts in the minority cell saying that their leaders have turned a blind eye to their opinions to as they face all the heat within their communities amid the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NCR).
“We have been disciplined workers of the BJP and supported the party’s views on issues like triple-talaq and Babri Masjid-Ram temple,” said Javed Baig party’s spokesperson of minorities for districts like Khandawa and Khargone. He tried contacting the senior functionaries for discussing over CAA and NRC including national head of the monarch Rasheed Ansari, state head Sannawwar Patel and district head Mohd Ajaz but no one showed up. Baig over later expelled for calling a meeting and sharing a post of Jawaharlal Nehru University where the protests are happening against the CAA.
The incidents came days after many of the state minorities have resigned from their posts in Maharashtra. The Muslim leaders have been a huge mark support in the BJP against the opposition.
“If you are saying minorities are persecuted in India’s neighborhood, how do we say that minorities aren’t harassed in our country, especially in the light of mob lynching and others such incidents”. The CAA and NRC are not just against Muslims alone. They are anti-poor in general,” said Adil Khan vice president of the minorities and is yet to resign from his post.
“The act is not against minorities its anti poor in general,” he said. Almost 50 office bearers have already resigned who has been with the saffron for 15-20 years now.
State secretary Syed Umar said we have been humiliated for being in the party, branded as ‘BJP k dalal (BJP’s agent) within our community since the legislation of the bill. “Though the legislation is in accordance with the Constitution, we are unable to address the concerns of our community which is feeling betrayed.”
Almost 173 functionaries and 500 workers have resigned from their posts on January 9 already. Tasleem Khan, district head of minority cell in Khargone said, We have associated ourselves to BJP but what is the point here when a ‘draconian law’ like CAA is passed by the same party. “We have been ignoring objectionable remarks made by senior party officials with personal remarks, but now its getting beyond ones toleration.” Party member in Harda and Dewas have also resigned.
While, state president Rakesh Singh informed that Baig was involved in anti-party activities which tarnished the party’s image for which he has been expelled. Baig attended an anti-CAA protest in Bhopal, he is BJPs spokesperson of minorities in the state.
