Voters have come out to election their next chief minister in Bihar since early Wednesday morning as the state goes in to the first phase of the polls. As the election takes place in the midst of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, several guidelines have been issued the Election Commission for the safe conduct of the electoral exercise.
Polling is underway in 71 assembly constituencies of Bihar and tight security and COVID-19 guidelines are in place at the polling stations. Elections to Bihar’s 243 Assembly seats will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7. Counting is scheduled to be held on November 10.

Prime minister has tweeted and appealed voters to adhere the social distancing during their visit to the polling stations. Rahul Gandhi has tweeted with a hashtag #Aj-Badlega-Bihar.
Fate of over a thousand candidates across these assembly segments will be decided by more than two crore voters. Of the total voters about 2.15 crore electors are eligible to vote, and of them 1.12 crore are male, 1.01 crore female and 599 are from the third gender.
In another development none of the voters in Balgudar in Lakhisarai came oout to vote in the early morning. They voters who number around 4000 have protested against construction project of a museum on the sports ground.
The last day of the campaigning saw a spree of election rallies by the major contenders in the fray, including JD(U) leader and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and the LJP’s Chirag Paswan. Also seen were Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several Cabinet Ministers.
Several guidelines have been issued by the Election Commission for the safe conduct of the electoral exercise. These include lowering the cap on the maximum number of voters for a polling booth from 1,600 to 1,000, staggering of polling hours and postal ballot facility for those aged above 80, or those afflicted with or suspected to be carrying the contagion.
