While more than 60 major elections were postponed across the world during the pandemic, polls in Bihar have crossed its first phase. The second phase Bihar election will decide way forward for Grand Alliance’s CM face Tejaswi and seven Nitish ministers. Campaigning has come to end and on Tuesday votes will decide which way parties move.
More than 70 million voters are eligible to cast their ballots for 243 assembly seats in Bihar. Polling has begun from October 25 votes will be counted on 10 November to decide who wins the chief minister’s chair.
Nitish, Tejaswi being on the forefront, after the first phase the focus has now shifted to the second phase during which 94 constituencies in 17 districts will go to polls. In the outgoing assembly, BJP holds only 20 of the 94 seats.
Districts such as West Champaran, East Champaran, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Araria, Purnea, Kishanganj, Katihar etc fall under Seemanchal. Besides, elections for the second phase will also be held in districts like Samastipur, Patna, Vaishali and Muzaffarpur.

Key seats that are now under focus are Raghopur from where Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejaswi Yadav, the chief ministerial face of the Grand Alliance, is seeking re-election. He had won the seat on his maiden outing in electoral politics in 2015. Satish Kumar of the BJP is against Tejaswi.
The other seat is Hasanpur constituency from where Tej Pratap Yadav is the RJD candidate. Elder son of party chief Lalu Prasad and brother of Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav who has moved out of his constituency Mahua in Vaishali district to Hasanpur in Samastipur and is pitted against two-time sitting MLA Rajkumar Rai of the Janata Dal(United).
Bankipur assembly seat is set to see a contest between Congress’ Luv Sinha and the BJP’s Nitin Nabin. Luv Sinha is the son of actor Shatrughan Sinha. Incumbent Nitin Nabin is aiming a third term from the seat.

Jhanjharpur assembly constituency will witness contest between sitting RJD MLA Gulab Yadav and the BJP’s candidate Nitish Mishra. Interestingly in 2015, the seat had seen the same contest.
IN Maner state BJP spokesperson and close confidant of Union minister of state Nityanand Rai, Nikhil Anand is fighting against two-time sitting MLA of the RJD Bhai Virendra.
The Begusarai assembly seat will witness a contest between sitting MLA Amita Bhushan and the BJP’s Kundan Singh. In Govindganj Sitting MLA and the Lok Janshakti Party’s (LJP’s) Raju Tiwari, Congress leader Brajesh Kumar and the BJP’s Sunil Mani Tiwari will be in a triangular fight.
All these seats have interesting contest for some or other reasons and winnability of candidates is at stake.
