Bangldesh telecom regulatory ban SMS services along Indian border amid the anti CAA protests

On Monday Bangladesh government banned all SMS services along the Indian border within the security threatened area, a telecom regulatory official said in a statement.

The Mobile network coverage has been limited within the radius of one kilometer along the entire border until further notice “for the sake of the country’s security in the current circumstances”.

The Bangladesh’s telecom regulator has ordered to shut down services within the one kilometer radius near the Indian border amid the ongoing anti-CAA protest in India.

The officials on condition of anonymity said the decision was taken out of concern that the Indian Muslims might actually try to enter Bangladesh after the Indian government passed the new citizenship law which has triggered violent protests across the country. It is said that the new bill is anti-Muslim and against the secular value of the Indian Constitution.
