The Delhi goes to poll tomorrow and the world is watching voters trend here. And as the ruling BJP has made Delhi election a prestige issue the elections here hold more significance than elections in other states.
For the BJP the Delhi election hold significance as only a months before they got majority in the entire country winning the general elections and it was second time that Narendra Modi became the prime minister of India. In general elections people had voted for the BJP but with assembly elections around people are giving a second thought.
The Aam Admi Party had won the previous assembly elections restricting BJP and this is what has to be seen as it is assembly elections once again. The BJP leadership has decided to contest aggressively and hence all big leaders including prime minister, home minister, ministers, MPs, MLAs, leaders from the party organisation and all those who could make even slightest impact upon voters have been brought in to the Delhi election fray.
BJP is making all efforts to make sure it wins the elections. The polarization, the Pakistan factor, have been focused and even media organisations that can make an impact are involved to garner support.
On the other hand Arvind Kejriwal led AAP is fighting the election on the basis of work done in five years. At the early stage AAP had impact with the issues raised by the BJP but later AAP took a stand and brought back the issues such as water and electricity, schools and hospital among voters for discussion. And this has benefitted the AAP. The benefit is that the damage done by BJP at the start has been reduced.
Political analysts and those who understand Delhi elections say AAP can make the government again but it might not get as many seats as it got last election. They say the public welfare work done by the AAP government is one reason and the other is sympathy gain by the APP due to aggressive campaigning by the BJP.
The experts also said that people have started taking look sabha and assembly elections differently and decide votes on the basis of different issues. The voters wish to elect a state government in which their work can be done smoothly and there are people in the government to listen to them and in this context APP has an edge.
At the end a line would be interesting. The fight in Delhi election is between the BJP and the AAP. Or rather between leaders and workers of BJP and common man of Delhi and the common man seems with AAP.
