President Trump dismissed Climate Change as the “the greatest con job”

Dr. Seema Javed

President Donald Trump in his his first in-person address to the United Nations General Assembly in seven years on Tuesday 23 rd Sept,2025 , dismissed climate change as “the greatest con job” in the world. With these words he once again reinforced his skepticism of global environmental initiatives. He claims that there is no global warming and, on the contrary, “global cooling” is occurring. He claims that all forecasts regarding climate change made by the UN and other organizations were allegedly erroneous.

His remarks come a day before UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hosts a climate summit at the UN that will focus on countries’ new climate action plans. As governments submit their third round of NDCs ( Nationally determined cuts in their emissions) under the Paris Agreement, they must commit to reversing the continued expansion of global fossil fuel production. “Intended nationally determined contribution”, is the phrase that countries are using to describe the climate pledges to cut emissions and decarbonize that they will make ahead of the UN negotiations in COP30 in Belem.

This includes explicitly integrating plans for reducing production within wider energy transition efforts, and redouble cooperative efforts to ensure a just transition globally.2025 was meant to be a year of delivery on climate action. Instead, it’s turning into a year of deferral.

On the other hand On the eve of a major UN climate pledging summit, Australia has set a target range of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 62%-70% by 2035 (compared with 2005 levels). This builds on Australia’s existing pledge to cut emissions by 43% by 2030.

The Australian target comes off the back of similar commitments by the UK, Japan and Brazil, with more than 100 enhanced national commitments expected by the end of this month, including from China, European Commission and Mexico. The Australian government – which is bidding to co-host the COP31 climate summit next year in partnership with Pacific island nations – said an orderly transition to net zero was “a golden economic opportunity for Australia” and urged other countries to pursue ambitious climate action. Even though EU “failed to agree” on a 2035 target for cutting emissions before the global Climate Summit.

Over the past decade, the rate of melting of the world’s glaciers has increased by 36%. Every year, 273 billion tons of ice melt, which threatens to raise sea levels and cause problems with fresh water.According to the data, between 2012 and 2023, approximately 36 percent more ice was lost than between 2000 and 2011. At the same time, on average, about 273 billion tons of ice are lost per year, which is equivalent to the water consumption of the world’s population for 30 years.

While a group of Spanish scientists has discovered huge columns of methane up to 700 meters high and 70 meters wide at the bottom of the Antarctic ocean. This methane heats the Earth’s surface 30 times faster than carbon dioxide. Scientists have already warned of the threat of underwater landslides and tsunamis.

But according to president Trump-They used to say that climate change would lead to a global catastrophe, that it would be irreversible… It was said that entire countries would disappear from the face of the Earth due to global warming, but on the contrary, global cooling is happening.

He criticized the European Union for reducing its carbon footprint, which he claimed has taken a toll on its economy, and warned countries that have invested heavily in renewable energy that their economies will suffer. he praised fossil fuels while attacking green energy. He said that green energy policies are destroying the countries because they are a huge investment in terms of cost and need heavy subsidies.

while A sweeping new report-“Cradle to Grave: The Health Toll of Fossil Fuels and the Imperative for a Just Transition” released today by Global Climate and Health Alliance( GCHA), reveals the devastating impacts of fossil fuel on human health. It provides the first comprehensive global overview of the health consequences associated with fossil fuel use at every stage of their lifecycle, from extraction to waste, and across the human lifespan, from pregnancy and pre-birth to old age.

President Trump says- the wind is not strong enough to turn these huge, terrible windmills that just stand and rust. Electricity is something that should make money, not lose it. Germany has made significant progress and for a long time was going in the wrong direction. They sought “green energy” and it led to bankruptcy. But new leaders have returned Germany to the direction of traditional sources and now they are safe.
