The formal inauguration of the Bharat Kabaddi League (BKL) took place today at Avadh Utopia, Surat, finally answering the much-anticipated question of *“What’s the big reveal?”* This league is specifically designed to empower players under 18 years of age from rural and tribal regions, with a special focus on areas like Jammu & Kashmir and the northeastern states. The goal is to provide these young talents a national platform to showcase their skills through kabaddi.
The event began with a beautiful rendition of Krishna Vandana, seeking Lord Krishna’s blessings for creating opportunities for these children. Following this, a warm welcome note was delivered by Shri Vinod Agarwal. The ceremonial lamp lighting was conducted by Shri Deepak Niwas Hooda, Captain Dharamveer Singh Ji, and Shri Madhavendra Singh Ji.
In his speech, Deepak Niwas Hooda praised the hidden talent within rural India and emphasized the significance of initiatives like BKL. Captain Dharamveer Singh Ji highlighted that this league would not only instill the necessary skills and discipline in young players but also foster a sense of nationalism, potentially inspiring some to join the Indian Armed Forces.
The official logo and website of the league were also unveiled, providing information on how people can get involved. The selection process will involve a phased series of trials: starting with village-level trials, then block, district, and state levels, culminating in a national camp in Lucknow in December. A total of 180 players will be selected through this comprehensive process.
The jersey launch and unveiling of the 12 teams, each to be guided with support from the Indian Armed Forces, will be held later this year in Mumbai. The main event of the Bharat Kabaddi League is planned for February 2024 in Lucknow, marking a significant step in promoting kabaddi at the grassroots level and empowering young players.
