Effectively implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana 2.0, initiated by the Central Government to address the health and nutrition needs of pregnant and lactating women in the state, the Yogi government has disbursed Rs. 111.61 crore to 2.74 lakh pregnant women within a year.
In the first phase, Rs 2534.11 crore has been paid to 47.53 lakh beneficiaries from 2017-2023. Subsequently, in the second phase spanning from April 2023 to the present, over Rs. 111.61 crore has been provided to 2.74 lakh beneficiaries.
It is noteworthy that the scheme has been implemented by the Health Department through the State Family Planning Innovation Service Agency (SIFPSA) since the year 2017. The Government of India has decided to launch PMMVY 2.0 as part of the Mission Shakti initiative, effective from April 2022.
Several modifications have been introduced under the scheme to enhance ease and effectiveness for the beneficiaries. In the initial phase, women will receive Rs. 5,000 in three installments for the first child. In the subsequent phase, a total of Rs. 11,000 will be provided, comprising Rs. 5,000 in two installments for the first child and Rs. 6,000 for the second child (if it’s a girl).
Special registration campaign conducted in various phases
In the second phase of the scheme, a total of 541,782 women registered by March 4, 2024, out of which 2.74 lakh have received its benefits, totaling Rs. 111.61 crore.
Bahraich ranked first in terms of maximum registrations with 25,678 registered women, followed by Varanasi (19,667), Ghaziabad (18,131), Rampur (15,057), and Basti (12,760).
To accelerate progress, the Health Department conducted special registration drives in accordance with the Government of India’s guidelines. Regular review meetings were held by the Principal Secretary and Secretary of the Medical and Health Department with the Chief Medical Officer/Additional Chief Medical Officer to boost beneficiary registration.
The Secretary of the Medical and Health Department issued instructions through letters to District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers to expedite the program’s progress, in which each ASHA was directed to register at least 10 beneficiaries.
To enhance the implementation of PMMVY and increase beneficiary registration and quality improvement, review meetings are being conducted by the Divisional Additional Director of Medical, Health, and Family Welfare with the Chief Medical Officers of their respective districts.
