Lucknow. In the last two seasons, Uttar Pradesh Underwater Sports and Fin Swimming Association athletes won 26 medals, including 17 in the 2022 edition at Pune and it included four gold, nine silver and four bronzes.
The number of medals is expected to be more this time when the 26-member team of Uttar Pradesh Underwater Sports and Fin Swimming Association participate in the 3rd National Finswimming Championship, scheduled to be held from September 3 to 5 at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Swimming Pool Mahalunge Belewadi in Pune.
In all, Uttar Pradesh’s swimmers would participate in all eight groups. “We are expecting more medals this time as our swimmers have done their homework well,” UPUSFSA’s secretary, Narendra Chauhan said on Wednesday soon after a warm sending-off given to the team.
Chauhan, a former national medalist swimmer, also said that the state body was expanding its reach to almost all the districts of the state and in future as despite being a new sport, the finswimming has been getting right recognition.
“More and more people are attracted to the sport and that’s a big plus for the state body, which is making sincere efforts to promote the sport in the region,” added Chauhan.
On the occasion, all the officials of the UPUSFSA to give a warm send-off to the team, which will leave for Pune on Thursday morning.
