Shivpaal Yadav, a Samajwadi Party veteran and brother of former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and party supremo Mulayam Singh, is looking in to options. Speculations now surround his every move.
One-time, the most powerful leader in the state, Shivpaal Yadav isn’t speaking much to media that is closely watching his moves. The man who had made a separate political party after differences within the family fought on a SP ticket this time and won.
But his Samajwadi Party, led by his nephew Akhilesh Yadav, former CM of Uttar Pradesh could not make government.
Shivpaal didn’t took oath of office with other SP MLAs but on Wednesday met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Amid widening rift between Shivpal, an MLA from Jaswantnagar in Etawah, and SP chief, Shivpaal met Yogi at his official residence and the two leaders were closeted for about 20 minutes.
As reporters asked Shivpal whether he intends to join the BJP, he did not refute it. For the record, Shivpal’s Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia (PSPL) termed it a courtesy call to greet Yogi on his victory. PSPL chief Shivpal Yadav, had called a meeting of his party’s core group of leaders, and said that he would speak about his future course of action at an appropriate time.
“It is not an appropriate time to say anything. However, I would take this opportunity to assure my party leaders not to get worried about the future,” said Shivpal. But the big question is what happens with the moves of Shivpaal and what if he joins BJP formally. He has not done in the past five years when SP and PSPL were out of power but a repeat BJP government in state is a different situation.
Party sources claimed that he was weighing his options as he wanted to secure a political future for his son Aditya. Political pundits also speculate BJP may send Shivpal to Rajya Sabha and his son Aditya may contest on his Jaswantnagar seat.
Another options is that Shivpal or his son may be fielded from Azamgarh parliamentary seat which has been vacated by Akhilesh Yadav who has decided to retain his assembly seat of Karhal. Azamgarh will be witnessing the by-election within six months.
Sources say that the PSPL chief was eyeing a bigger role in the SP after he contested the recently concluded assembly elections on the SP symbol from Jaswantnagar sacrificing his own party that he formed after differences with SP.
