Lucknow . An all-round performance from Abhinav Shukla (3 wickets, 28 not out) helped Hindustan Times start their campaign brilliantly by defeating Amar Ujala by a huge margin of nine wickets in the opening match of the SBI Cup Media Premier League, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here today.
Hindustan Times won the toss and decided to field first. Batting first in the allotted 20 overs, Amar Ujala could only score 76 runs in 14.2 overs. The start of the team was not good and the team was in trouble after losing four wickets for 41 runs. Opener Sumit Singh scored 14 runs. The second opener Rajiv Anand could only score three runs. Shyamu scored 12 runs in the lower order. Other batsmen could not cross the double figure. Abhinav Shukla from Hindustan Times got 3/19. Manish Singh, Rohit Kumar Singh and Deepak Gupta took two wickets each.
In reply, Hindustan Times romped home in in 10.3 overs, losing just one wicket. Abhinav Shukla scored 28 runs in 10 balls with 13 fours and three sixes. After his dismissal, Sharad Deep contributed unbeaten 11 and along with fellow unbeaten batter Anshul Kumar (21, 29b, 1×4) added the remaining runs. Uday Pratap Singh got the breakthrough of one wicket from Amar Ujala. Abhinav Shukla of Hindustan Times was adjudged man-of-the-match.
Earier, the Cief General Manager of the State Bank of India’s Lucknow Circle, Ajay Kumar Khanna inaugurated the tournament. Former Indian cricketer Gyanendra Pandey was also present on the occasion. Tomorrow’s match: LSJA XI vs Times of India
