Lawyer in Nirbhaya cases joins BSP

Seema Kushwaha, the Supreme Court lawyer and who ensured justice in one of the most sensational rape cases in the country, known as Nirbhaya case, joined the Bahujan Samaj Party in Lucknow on Thursday.

The counsel of Nirbhaya in the 2012 Delhi gangrape and murder case took the BSP membership in presence of the party’s national general secretary Satish Chandra Misra. Seema said that she is joining the BSP to ensure justice to the weaker section of the society.

The Nirbhaya rape case was known by all as it had shaken the country in 2012 when a 23-year-old paramedic student, referred to as Nirbhaya (to avoid revealing her identity), was brutally gang-raped and assaulted by six men in a moving bus in Delhi in December 2012. The victim was later thrown out on the road. She succumbed to her injuries at a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012.

The senior lawyer, Seema had also fought for justice in the rape case in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras. The Supreme Court lawyer is also the founder of Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust and has launched a campaign to ensure justice for the victims of rape.

The Bahujan Samaj Party has released the names of the candidates for the first phase of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party had released the first list of candidates on 53 assembly seats, out of the total 403, of Uttar Pradesh for the polls.

Polling in Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, and March 3 and 7 in seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
