Maharashtra minister’s allotted portfolios

The Maharashtra government on Sunday, after one month, could succeed in announcing portfolios to its ministers. Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar got ministry of Finance, though he was willing for the Home Department. Mr Anil Deshmukh, son of former chief minister managed to get Home department. Chief Minister Udhav Thakeray’s son Aditya Thakeray could get, the not so important Tourism and environment ministry.

Senior Congress leader Balasheb Thorat is in command of the revenue ministry.

The decision over the portfolio’s allocation came after the three parties – Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress looked into some core portfolios since it had been a matter of discomfort among the power sharing parties. A six member council was setup in which two from each party took oath along with Thakray on November 28. However, the first cabinet expansion took place on December 30. Sena now has 15, NCP 16 and Congress has 12 ministers in the government who have been allotted portfolios.

Some new departments are yet to be made. NCP chief spokesperson and minister in Maharashtra government Nawab Malik will announce the portfolio’s on Monday.

The BJP and Sena fought the Assembly polls together and won 201 seats together in the 288 member Maharashtra Assembly. Later on Shiv Sena broke his three-decade long ties with the BJP after disagreeing on the post of chief minister and preferred to form government with NCP and Congress.
