Janhvi Kapoor movie shoot stalled

Shooting of the movie “Good Luck Jerry” came to a halt in Patiala, Punjab, by a group of farmers who demanded a statement from the actor in support of their protest against the three new farm laws.

This was the second time that the shooting of the movie was halted in Patiala. It was also disrupted in Fatehgarh Sahib district earlier this month. The shooting was taking place near Punjab Bagh area in Patiala.

Protesting farmers insisted that actor Janhvi Kapoor should make a statement in support of farmers who are agitating near Delhi agai9nst the farm laws. “We had earlier told them that they would not be allowed shooting of the film here. We stopped it,” a protester said.

“If she gives a statement in support of farmers only once, we will allow the shooting,” the protester added. Shooting resumed later, a police official said.

Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh have been camping at Delhi’s borders for several weeks, demanding the repeal of the farm laws.

The ongoing protest is against the three farm acts which were passed by the Parliament of India in September 2020. Farmer unions and their representatives have demanded that the laws be repealed and will not accept anything short of it.

These laws are — The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.

The farmers of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana are angry with the provisions of these Bills as they are afraid that these Bills may be the platform that the government (at the Centre) is setting up for the replacement or scrapping of the otherwise robust support system prevalent in their states for the purchase of crop.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the farm laws has said the only solution to the farmers’ issue was throwing the new agri laws in the “waste paper basket.”
