Cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government 62-year-old Kamla Rani Varun, the minister of technical education died during treatment for COVID-19 at PGI on Sunday morning.
The minister, who is an MLA from Ghatampur constituency in Kanpur had tested positive on July 18 and was then admitted to the PGI.
“The news about the death of Kamla Rani is distressing. The state has lost a leader of the people today,” chief minister Yogi Adityanath wrote in a tweet while expressing grief about the demise of the leader.
Condition of the minister deteriorated after infection spread to the lungs after which she was put on life support system. CM who was scheduled to visit Ayodhya, has cancelled his Ayodhya visit, after the news about the death of the minister came.
Her sample was tested at Civil hospital in Lucknow after she developed symptoms and then was admitted to the PGI.
