As many as 24 labourers died and 15 other were critically injured after the truck they were travelling in, collided with a lorry on the highway in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh.
The prime minister also expressed condolences for the families. The CM has announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased person and Rs 50000 for injured.
These labourers were coming from Rajasthan. The injured have been shifted to hospital. The chief minister has ordered senior officials to reach the spot and provide help immediately. As per the initial reports the DCM the labours were travelling was hit by a truck and this killed many and injured others.
The DCM was parked on the roadside when the incident took place. The injured have been admitted in different hospitals in Kanpur and Saifai. Several are critically injured. The CM has ordered the commissioner and DIG Kanpur zone to probe the matter and send a report.
Political parties and leader have expressed grief over the incident. BSP chief Mayawati in a tweet wrote, ‘I demand the chief minister to take action against the officer who didn’t fulfilled their responsibilities. Families of those who were killed or injured in this accident should be provided financial assistance. I express my condolences to the bereaved families.’
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav in a tweet wrote, the incident is sad. These were the people who earn for their families hence the Samajwadi Party will provide financial assistance of Rs one lakh to the families.
According to the officials the labourers were from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal. The incident took place at around 3.30 in the morning. This is not the first such incident where migrants lost their lives while coming back home from other states.
Two days before 14 migrants were killed when a truck mowed them on the road while they were walking towards their home. The incidents took place in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. A day before in Mahoba a truck with labourers had met an accident in which 67 migrants were injured.
