Afghan Elections: President Ashraf Ghani secures second term in Afghanistan

 

NEW DELHI:Afghan President  Ashraf Ghani, has secured a second term an Afghanistan spokesperson Hawa Alam Nuristani, at the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced the results at a whooping 50.6 percent in the preliminary elections on Monday in the capital, Kabul.

The results for the September 28 presidential poll were delayed amid the accusations of misconduct and technical problems with counting ballots.

While his Challenger, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah scored a 39.5 percent votes , coming out as a tough competitor. The December 19 results were tampered where 1 million of the 2.7 million were dropped during irregularities after a German company made barometric system were installed to stop people from voting twice for the same candidate.

The UN had welcomed the decision and praised the Afghanistani’s  for voting. “ On 28 September  2019, the citizens of Afghanistan braved security threats to cast theri vote fro a better future; those voters deserve to be for carrying out their civic duty,” said the UN General Secretary- General Specical Representative Tadamichi Yamamoto.
