New Delhi: Keeping in view the situation in north east Delhi the Delhi police has issued order for shoot-at-sight for the rioters. The home ministry has called back IPS SN Srivastava from his posting with the CRPF and made him special commissioner (law and order).
Last evening in north east Delhi’s Chandbagh area the rioters had burnt shops and pelted stones while the cops resorted to tear gas but it did not yield much. To control situation para-military forces were deployed. The rioters had burnt a bakery shop and several fruit stalls. According to the police department at least 10 people have lost their lives in north east Delhi violence.
Spokesperson of the Delhi police MS Randhwa told reporters that ten people including a police constable had died in violence. The deputy commissioner of Shahdara Amit Sharma was injured and among the injured were 56 cops and 136 civilians.
Earlier the police commissioner Delhi Amulya Patnaik over the violence incidents had said none among the guilty will be spared. He said that Delhi police is continuously trying to keep peace and the shortcomings were removed while action against the guilty will be taken.
Randhwa had claimed that situation is under control in north east Delhi but in Maujpur and Chandbagh incidents of fire happened. Randhwa said situation is under control and senior officials were at the spot and that section 144 has been imposed in the affected areas. He said that difficulty in managing is there because of the narrow bylanes. He told reporters that 11 cases had been filed till now.
Randhwa said that there is no lack of cops and no laxity has taken place. He told that CCTV footage is being used to identify the unruly and drones are used to keep vigil.
