Shehbaz Sharif is new Pakistan PM

Leader of Opposition Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. Shehbaz Sharif secured a majority with 174 votes in the 342-member house on Monday to become the PM after Imran Khan lost the vote of confidence day before, interestingly with 174 votes against him.

Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician who was the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan from 20 August 2018 to 10 April 2022.

He is the current the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-N. Previously, he has served as the Chief Minister of Punjab three times in his political career, making him the longest-serving Chief Minister of Punjab.

Imran Khan became the first Prime Minister in Pakistan to be voted out in the country’s history with a no-confidence motion. No prime minister in Pakistan’s history was ever ousted through a no-confidence motion. Imran Khan is the first premier whose fate was decided through a trust vote that he lost eventually.

Imran tried his best to play till the last ball and it took supreme court intervention to conduct no-confidence motion that resulted in to a negative for him.
