Lucknow: The city of Lucknow is once again preparing to host some of the world’s finest badminton talent at the Syed Modi India International HSBC World Tour Super 300 Badminton Championship 2025 from 25th to 30th November. Former champion Kidambi Srikanth, Olympians Nozomi Okuhara, HS Prannoy, rising stars Priyanshu Rajawat, Tanvi Sharma, Anmol Kharb and Unnati Hooda, and last year’s women’s doubles champions Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand P. are among the leading contenders set to compete. Several international shuttlers from across the globe will also participate in this prestigious tournament.
Organised by the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), and powered by the Uttar Pradesh Government, the championship will be held from 25 to 30 November 2025 at the Yonex Sunrise Babu Banarasi Das Badminton Academy, Gomti Nagar. The event takes place in a city that has recently earned the distinction of being named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, reflecting its rich cultural and culinary heritage.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, UP Badminton Association President Dr. Navneet Sehgal announced that a total prize purse of USD 240,000 will be up for grabs. Qualifying matches, along with select main draw matches, will be held on 25 November, while the finals are scheduled for 30 November. The main draw across all five categories — men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles — will feature 32 players or pairs each. Of these, 28 entries will be direct, with the remaining four spots filled through qualifiers.
Spectator entry will be free throughout the tournament. The semifinals and finals will be broadcast live on DD Sports and the WAVE OTT platform, ensuring fans across the country can follow the action.
“Lucknow has always been a land of sporting excellence,” Dr. Sehgal said. “We are proud to welcome some of the biggest names in world badminton. Through this championship, we hope to inspire the youth of Uttar Pradesh by exposing them to the highest standards of international sport. ”
A total of 250 players from 20 countries — including India, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Denmark, Thailand, Türkiye, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong-China, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, UAE, and Israel — will participate this year, with India fielding the largest contingent of 152 players.
Players will have access to practice facilities at the BBD UP Badminton Academy as well as the Vijayant Khand and Vinay Khand Mini Stadiums in Gomti Nagar. The BWF-appointed Tournament Manager for the championship is Z. Sophia Schierer Horvath. Other key officials include Referee Jozef Kuprivec, Deputy Referee Dheeraj Goonedry, Local Deputy Referee C.R. Rajeev, Competition Manager F.C. Dathan, and Match Controller Vishwanath Malkotia.
UP’s own Shruti Mishra will participate in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles. In the women’s doubles main draw, Shruti Mishra, Samriddhi Singh, Sonali Singh and Tanisha Singh will represent Uttar Pradesh with their respective partners.
